Dune Buggy Safari
If you are addicted to rough driving adventure, hop on any of a number of dune buggies at CHUKKA, an adventure company providing some of the most exciting tours in Grand Turk, as well as in other Caribbean countries/territories. These dune buggies are specially designed tubular frame, built for sand, four-wheelers.
Your buggy safari will begin with a drive through the narrow track that outlines the rocky beach around the island until you reach the south-east side. From there, you may trek a bit until you position for an excellent view of the uninhabited islands around like the Gibb’s Cay.
If you have time, visiting Gibb’s Cay gives you the chance to experience a unique close encounter with sting rays and get the chance to feed them. Hop back in your buggy and make your way to Cockburn town which is Turks and Caicos capital. On the way, you will pass by interesting ponds called the Salinas which are actually salt ponds.
Brace yourself on your way back from the capital as you might just chance upon the famous pink flamingos raking the Salinas of shrimps and other crustaceans. If luck’s still on your side you might come across some of the island’s indigenous horses that wander around freely.
Finally as you make your way to the Northern most tip of the island, you’ll pass by a ships’ anchorage used during hurricanes. If you walk down from the tip of the island through the cliffs, you might just be able to see the migrant humpback whales.
